MUS 1001 - Found. Of Theory And Ear Training

This course introduces concepts and skills related to recognition, notation, hearing, and performance of clefs, pitches, rhythms, scales, intervals, and triads. Additional topics include chromatic, major, minor scales/key signatures, simple and compound meters, and consonance/dissonance. The aural training component includes simple melodic/rhythmic dictation, basic conducting patterns, intervals and scales, syncopated rhythms, and simple melodic exercises. Students unable to complete the music theory and aural skills diagnostic exams at a satisfactory level must pass this course before enrolling in MUS 1011 /MUS 1012
