MUS 1011 - Written Music Theory I

This course begins the music theory sequence with a brief study of scales and intervals, taking more time to explore triads, and cadences, and the principles of harmony, embellishing tones, and 18th-century part-writing techniques. Students will produce original harmonization’s of a preexisting melody in a simple, four-voice texture.

Prerequisite: Written theory diagnostic or approval of instructor.
