MUS 3030 - Form And Analysis

This course surveys the various iterations of previously learned forms over the course of Western music history, as well as various analytical techniques apropos to the harmonic, tonal, and formal languages of those stylistic periods. Special attention is given to the impact analysis can have on performance. Each student will write an analytical paper that addresses the significance of analysis to performance in a piece of music from the students’ repertoire.
Prerequisite: MUS 2021 .
Offered: Every other spring term.
